The Choir: The Senior Choir at the Cathedral Church of All Saints is a mixed voice, adult choir of approximately twenty members. Choristers include a mix of singers, from university age to seniors, with a core of paid Choral Scholars and section leads. Each year, the choir sings the Cathedral’s major Sunday morning Choral Eucharist at 10:30a.m., beginning after Labour Day and continuing to mid-June. This involves singing ten or more items on most Sundays, including the mass movements (Kyrie, etc), the hymns, the psalm (in a range of settings), Communio and Benediction. The Senior Choir also sings a full, traditional Choral Evensong, at 7:00p.m., on the final Sunday evening of each month between September and June. In addition to these regular commitments, the choir annually sings eight to ten other major cathedral services through the year, including principal feast days, special diocesan services such as ordination, and so on.
Practices: Choir practices take place in the Cathedral, on Thursday evenings, currently from 7:30 to 9:30p.m., from September to mid-June. In addition, there is always a final, hour-long, warm-up/practice that takes place prior to every service.
Repertoire: Choir repertoire ranges from early music through to very contemporary works by living composers, in a wide range of styles. The rich acoustic in the Cathedral, both in the chancel and at the West Door, enriches the choral sound, and is a major part of the blend of the Cathedral choir.
Joining the Choir: New choristers are always welcome in the CCAS Senior Choir. Interested singers should contact Eszter Horvath, Acting Choir Director. Sight-reading is useful, but not a prerequisite. You will quickly learn how to sight-read in this choir! Come and join us!
During this interim year of 2014/15, Junior Choir has not been functioning. It is hoped that with the appointment of a new Organist/Music Director for the Summer/Fall of 2015, the Junior Choir will be restored.
