Christian EducationLife in the Eucharist“That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven and their companions gathered together. They were saying, ‘The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!’ Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread.” How old does one need to be before he or she can receive the bread and wine of the Eucharist? This is a question many parents ask as they nurture their children in the Christian faith, and actively participate in Sunday worship. For many years, one’s “first Communion” was associated with Confirmation. However, in terms of our theological understanding, Baptism marks our beginning as full participants in the community of faith. There is nothing to exclude children from receiving Communion, but many families desire this action to be grounded in a deeper understanding and meaning. The Life in the Eucharist program is designed to engage families in a journey of discovery through discussions and activities, at home and in church, following a prescribed course of approximately 6 weeks. How is God made known to us in the breaking of bread? This program is typically offered annually during the season of Lent. If you would like more information please speak to one of our Sunday school teachers, clergy, or contact the Cathedral Office. |
